Prentiss was the first Republican Mayor of Milwaukee. He was also a prominent and active member in the community, serving on the Wisconsin State Assembly, the Milwaukee Pioneer Association, the Milwaukee Common Council, the Board of Trustees of the Village of Milwaukee.
