as I have found a few other pieces--cabinets mostly--with very very similar marquetry patterning

But this is the first I've found that is completely blank

all dating to the first half of the 19th century and I believe all by the same maker

Crossley and dating from the 1970s 80sjust enough to learn that he lived in Cape Cod and that birds native to the area were his thing. I find this eagle a very good one not a bit fussy or showy but rather quite elegant and watchful on its perch, as eagles are, and with a head that also reminds me a bit of a seagull, which makes it feel a bit friendly!
